This week, two of my entries have been included in the Cracked article, "20 Movie Posters Too Breathtaking For Hollywood." The prompt for the contest, which the title of the article doesn't necessarily reflect, is to take modern movies and to give them a classic, Saul Bass-esque makeover. Not necessarily minimalist, but more than floating actor heads on a poster and more of the works of art classic Hollywood is used to. One of my entries, which placed 17th, is SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING. I'm not incredibly pleased with how it turned out, so I was surprised it placed higher than the other one I am featuring here. Everyone seems to be responding more to my JOHN WICK entry, which I am more proud of. I have even seen a couple of comments where people weren't interested in seeing the movie until they saw my poster! So...marketing commission! Just kidding. But it's pretty cool I was able to reach them when the actual marketing campaign didn't.
Keanu "I know Kung Fu" Reeves is making his directorial debut for a martial arts movie called "Man of Tai Chi." Keanu is a huge fan of the genre (which is probably why 'The Matrix' was a dream for him) and I am excited for him to pull a Ben Affleck and become an amazing director.
I especially became excited when I saw this short behind the scenes clip that highlights a special camera rig they would be using for the fight scenes.
And now the teaser trailer. I thought it would've been a more period piece, but I'm excited for a contemporary martial arts film! The trailer, unfortunately, has a certain cheese factor reminiscent of direct-to-video movies, but he's got Yuen Woo Ping ("Matrix" choreographer) doing the fight arrangements, so the action will be top notch and Keanu is playing the villain! It also co-stars Iko Uwais of "The Raid."
Check it out!
E.J. is just a simple man who loves movies. Don't judge.
